In this parody of the hard-boiled detective genre, Sam Shikaze (of the Sam Spade school) is a Japanese American private detective hired to find the missing Cherry Blossom Queen. In the process, he meets all sorts of seedy, disreputable characters.
A modern Asian American theater classic, Yellow Fever debuted at San Francisco’s Asian American Theater Company in 1982 and subsequently was produced throughout the U.S. and Canada, including a successful, extended run Off-Broadway. Today, playwright Rick Shiomi is the artistic director at Theater Mu, an Asian American theater based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
