Wabi Sabi by Mark Reibstein, art by Ed Young [in Bloomsbury Review]

Wabi SabiLittle Wabi Sabi, a lovely kitty living in Kyoto, Japan, has a very special name … except he’s not quite sure what it means. Off he goes to find out, and comes to realize that his name is an homage to the Japanese concept of wabi sabi, of finding “beauty and harmony in what is simple, imperfect, natural, modest, and mysterious.” We should all learn such lessons! Caldecott Medal winner Ed Young‘s latest illustrative endeavor uses especially gorgeous collage that parents will surely appreciate, as well.
