Swordbird by Nancy Yi Fan, illustrations by Mark Zug [in Bloomsbury Review]
She’s 13 now, but the exceedingly precocious Nancy Yi Fan was just 11 when she first wrote this fantasy adventure about warring cardinals and blue jays who must unite against the evil hawk who has descended upon their once-peaceful Stone-Run Forest. The weaker birds are no match for the tyrannical hawk and together must enlist the aid of the mythical Swordbird in hopes of restoring order and peace to their troubled home.
