As the first major compilation that focuses on South Asian American and South Asian immigrant women in the U.S., this anthology offers a wide variety of short stories, poetry, personal histories, and critical essays, by and about women whose ethnic roots trace back to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
While South Asians were among the smaller immigration groups during the earlier years of the 20th century, more relaxed immigration laws after 1965 saw the South Asian population grow to become the fourth largest Asian American community in the U.S. In spite of their large growth, the South Asian population remains one of the least studied ethnic groups in the U.S.
